César Pelli will be awarded next 15 July in Bilbao with the BIA Prize, the highest honor granted by the architects of Biscay

Argentine architect Cesar Pelli will receive, next July 15 in Bilbao, the BIA Prize. This award is granted by the Architects Association in Bizkaia. The award honours a professional for his special contribution to the urban regeneration of Bilbao. Two years ago the first edition of this award was given to British Architect Sir Norman Foster. This edition the award recognizes the work of Cesar Pelli in planning the Abandoibarra area, crowned with the Iberdrola Tower, the skyscraper of 165 meters, the new financial and business icon of the city. The award recognizes the contribution of Cesar Pelli to the process of transformation of the waterfront of Bilbao. Architects award the work of Pelli in the Masterplan of Abandoibarra. A job that “stands as an important piece in the set of actions taken in order to regenerate the city.” A task that “has resulted in a space recovered for citizenship and taken as a model when undertaking similar actions in other urban environments.”   The architectural work of Cesar Pelli (Tucumán, 1926) stands out for its elegance and sobriety of the lines of their buildings. Pelli combines materials like glass, stone and metal. More than 80 projects (many of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including the World Financial Center in New York, the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, and the International Finance Centre in Hong Kong) represent its architecture as a continually evolving art that can express the aspirations of our shared culture.
