The Jury’s verdict
Hacia una ciudad sana/Towards living cities/Hiri bizirantz
“The city is a constantly changing organism; as such, many cities struggle on a daily basis to ensure that their citizens have a better and more prosperous environment, in which the chances of success are higher. This aim is often hampered by the difficult task of balancing development and quality of life, exemplified in the division between industry and housing, the urban and natural environments, or sustainable and economic factors.
A Healthy City is a city that can ensure equal opportunities for its citizens to allow them to develop to their full potential. It is not attached to a particular urban growth, but rather, it is an organism, which, whether large or small, rich or poor, manages to be an appealing city for its citizens, and it finds its niche in which strengths are reinforced and weaknesses are minimised.
In this first edition of BIA UrbanRegenerationForum, we aim to address concerns about how to achieve a healthy, liveable, appealing and prosperous city. Therefore, we cannot ignore the fact that urban planning, architecture and sustainability are totally cross-cutting disciplines, so we will have to talk about pedestrianised cities, energy efficient cities, smart cities, human cities. Alongside global experts in urban regeneration, we will try to accommodate reflection and research into how we can make our cities better”.

This is the only opportunity that the public will have to visit this space, which closed 14 years ago, and see the transient refurbishment (which will only be open for two weeks until 28 September) that the architects have created over the old tracks:a space for leisure activities that will stretch to the terrace overlooking […]
